Carnival of Venice 2012
Life is theatre. Let’s all dress up!
Saturday the 4th and Sunday the 5th of February
and from Saturday the 11th to Tuesday the 21st of February 2012
Venice’s unmissable and most long-awaited event in the year is back: ten days of masquerades, events, music, games and colours. The city goes crazy and fills with cheering crowds, in the central Saint Mark’s Square and in the thousands of other campi, where you can watch plays for free and parades in costume, concerts and historical pageants, events for children and nights of wild dancing, food tasting and other sensorial experiences. An experience for all tastes, with entertainment above all.
Carnival 2012 will be dedicated to the theatricalisation of everyday life, inspired by Venice in its role as European capital of theatre. The city has been the home of many important theatres, with excellent drama production ever since the 1600s, when characters of the level of Antonio Vivaldi or Antonio Guardi and Canaletto, covered important artistic positions in the organisation of plays and the preparation of sets for important theatrical performances.
