Just about every part of the city can be easily reached from the station, either on foot, by public boat (vaporetto).
After crossing the Ponte della Libertà, Venice-bound trains pull into the Santa Lucia Station in Venice, which was built in the second half of the 19th century on the space previously occupied by the Corpus Domini and Santa Lucia convent complex. It was renovated in 1954. Before the railway bridge was opened back in 1846, Venice was connected to the mainland only by water means.
