What documents does a disabled person have to present to obtain free admission to the state museums in Venice? (Gallerie dell’Accademia, Galleria Giorgio Fianchetti at Ca’ D’Oro, Museum of Oriental Art, National Archaeological Museum, Museum of Palazzo Grimani) To answer this question we publish the text of circular no. 5697 of 2007, issued by the Ministry for Cultural Assets and Activities.
“As is known, the D.M. of 20th April 2006 no. 239, attached hereto, has amended the D.M. of 11th December 1997, no. 507 “Regulations for the establishment of the admission ticket to monuments, museums, galleries, archaeological excavations, parks and monumental gardens of the State”, replacing article 4 which controlled free access and free admission.
It has recently been pointed out by some visitors that the provisions concerning disabled persons are not uniformly applied in the State-operated exhibition areas, with particular reference to the personal document testifying to their physical condition.
On this point it is stated that, for reasons of advisability and confidentiality, the above-mentioned Regulation does not contemplate specific indications concerning the type of documentation to be presented by the disabled person in order to be granted free admission, as it is not possible to indicate a generalised document for everyone.
To obtain free admission, the interested parties can present any document issued by a public authority, giving proof of their condition.”
