An invitation to discover Venice from water and its culture... for free!
Much has been written about Venice, still, the pages of Gondola Days 2011 – the editorial project by Lineadacqua in partnership with the Associazione Gondolieri – are generous in details out of the usual patterns. Gondola Days is an invitation to discover Venice from its most important elements: water and cultural Institutions.
Gondoliers bring millions of tourists along channels, and beyond an extraordinary view of the city they can also introduce to museums and current art laboratories in Venice.
Gondola Days 2011 is distributed for free by gondoliers to their passengers.

Venice is a unique city in the world!
Every year more than 20 million visitors are amazed at the sight of the City.
With a small sum of money even you will become one of the City’s sponsors, contributing to safeguarding it.
From the 24th of August 2011, all visitors who stay in an accommodation facility within the territory of the Municipality of Venice have to pay the “Tourist tax”.
The collected funds will help the City improve the quality of the tourist services (transport, museums, events,…) and finance works aimed at maintaining, using and salvaging the city’s cultural and architectural heritage.
Thank you for being Venice’s sponsors.
The tax, which will not be charged on residents, will be levied on the first five consecutive nights of any overnight stay. Tariffs will vary according to season (there will be two fares, one for low and on for high season), location (three areas have been identified: Venice old town, the islands and the mainland) and to the type of accommodation (hotels, b&b, campsites, holiday village, etc). In fact, there is a series of tax reductions foreseen for accommodation facilities located on the islands in the Lagoon (30%) or on the mainland (40%) and during low season (up to 50%). Children aged between 10 and 16 will pay half the tax fare, whereas those under 10 will not be charged at all.
But not only small children will be exempted from tourist taxation: no tax will be paid by those staying in youth hostels or other facilities owned by the City of Venice; by those assisting people admitted to local hospitals; by tourist bus drives and tour leaders of larger groups (25 people at least); by volunteer and security forces on duty. Reductions will be cumulative: each discount percentage will be applied to the full tax fare one after another.

On April 1st 2011, new rules entered into effect regarding the validation of all electronic ACTV transport passes such as the time based Tourist Travel Cards purchased through the //venice>connected site.
It is compulsory to revalidate your ticket every time you board an ACTV water bus or a bus, independently of the time period of validity remaining on the pass.
Turnstiles are being installed at a number of the more trafficked boat loading docks (Lido, San Marco Giardinetti, Pietà and Burano) requiring you to swipe before the turnstile allows you to pass, and all tickets must be validated before any boarding.
Anyone caught without a re-validated ticket will be fined 6 euros (plus an administrative fee).
These measures will further reduce the presence of "freeloaders" that ride without valid tickets, and to collect complete data to better organize the services.
