We inform our visitors that, in the occasion of the exhibition “MANET. Return to Venice” (24.04 – 18.08.2013), the lift of Palazzo Ducale gives access only to the second floor. Stop on the first floor is allowed only for disabled people.
A masterpiece of Gothic architecture, the Doge’s Palace is the very symbol of Venice, the Doge’s residence and seat of Venetian government.
A visit to the museum will allow you to discover the history and culture of the Venetian civilization from the origins and the first Doges, the 14th century palace, Doge Francesco Foscari’s Renovations and the 15th century,the fireof 1577, the prisons and other 17th century works, to the palace after the fall of the Venetian Republic. The interior – with works by artists such as Tiziano, Veronese, Tiepolo e Tintoretto, allow extraordinary itineraries. You can choose among the following layout and collections:
Adventurous children, starting from the age of 6, will be very interested in:
- visiting the prisons and crossing the Bridge of Sighs (like the condemned prisoners used to do, when they were taken to their cells);
- discovering the “secret itineraries”: all those rooms of the Most Serene Republic (offices, archives, prisons…) where the delicate and important matters of state of the ancient maritime republic were dealt with;
- the Armoury, with its collection of ancient weapons and suits of armour.
Educational workshops and activities
On Sundays the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia organises the weekly “Famiglie al Museo” events , a series of interesting recreational-educational activities aimed at children between ages 3 and 12, that stimulate their curiosity and also involve the adults who are with them.
Families composed by two adults and at least one juvenile (between 6 and 18 years of age), visiting the Venice City Museums, can make use of the Offer for Families ‘Museum Pass’ that consists of 1 full price ticket and reduced tickets for the other members of the family.
