Accademia Bridge

Accademia Bridge
Short description:
It connects St.Mark's quarter with Dorsoduro.

If you come from the direction of St. Mark's Square, the Accademia is the first bridge you meet that crosses the Grand Canal. Constructed in wood in a single span, the Accademia was designed by engineer Eugenio Miozzi, as a replacement for the iron bridge constructed in 1854. It was originally intended to only be a temporary solution, while awaiting construction of the stone bridge in the design that won the competition in 1933. In the early 1980s, the city completed works to reinforce the bridge with steel additions underpinning the lower part. Crossing the bridge, the pedestrian enjoys an enchanting view of the first section of the Grand Canal down to the former Customs check point and the Bacino di San Marco
