venice>connected: Sustainable Tourism in Venice

La laguna di Venezia

Every year Venice, the city on the water, receives millions of tourists from all over the world.

Tourism is one of the main resources for the Venetian economy, and for this reason it is increasingly necessary for the city to receive its visitors in the best possible way, directing the flow of tourists and coordinating all the people involved in the sector, in close synergy, for an integrated city tourism offer.

In February 2009 the City of Venice launched //venice>connected, the project which is now the fulcrum around which are developed the sustainable tourism policies promoted by the city’s Office for Tourism.

//venice>connected is the single portal for access to the city’s public services and its objective, by constantly monitoring the flow of tourists, is to preserve Venice’s immense cultural heritage, to safeguard the environment and the natural resources, and to promote the economic interests and the welfare of the local community.

In accordance with the guidelines of the European Union, the //venice>connected project promotes sustainable tourism, investing in the quality of life in the city - from the social, economic, cultural and environmental point of view - for tourists, residents, students and workers.
